Privacy Policy
Effective August 8, 2026
CoupleTime is a private shared space for two people. This Privacy Policy explains what information CoupleTime processes, how it is used, when it is visible to your connected partner, and the controls available to you.
We use your information to operate and secure the app, synchronize the home you share with your partner, deliver features you request, and verify App Store and Google Play purchases. We do not sell personal information, run third-party advertising, or use shared content for behavioral advertising.
1. Scope and who we are
This Policy applies to the CoupleTime iOS and Android applications, coupletime.app, and related support and backend services (together, the "Service"). CoupleTime is the controller of personal information processed for the Service. Questions and privacy requests may be sent to hello@coupletime.app.
2. Information we process
We process the following categories when you provide them or use the corresponding feature:
| Category | Examples | How it is collected |
|---|---|---|
| Account and profile | Email address, display name, birthday, profile photo, account status, and connected household. | Entered or selected by you. Passwords are stored as cryptographic hashes, not readable passwords. |
| Shared content | Messages, images, notes, mail, diary entries, calendar events, special dates, photos, travel pins, gifts, moods, statuses, and household changes. | Created by you or your partner while using shared features. |
| Activities and preferences | Game state and scores, Inner Worlds profiles, pet activity, sleep or wake state, room presence, notification settings, and appearance choices. | Generated from your selections and activity in the app. |
| Media | Profile photos, shared photos, message images, Photo Quest photos, and short Act It Out videos. | Selected from your photo library or captured after you grant permission. Audio is removed from uploaded Act It Out videos. |
| Location-related information | Travel coordinates you save and birth location information you enter for chart features. | Entered or selected by you. Live Sky location and motion readings are processed on your device for orientation and are not stored as Live Sky history. |
| Purchases and virtual items | App Store or Google Play product and transaction identifiers, subscription status, purchase dates, Heart balances, ledger entries, gifts, and daily activity rewards. | Received from Apple or Google, or generated when you earn or spend Hearts. We do not receive full payment-card details. |
| Device, session, and security | Session identifiers, push tokens, IP address, user agent, app environment, request identifiers, authentication events, and operational logs. | Collected automatically when needed to connect, secure, diagnose, and operate the Service. |
| Support communications | Your email address, message, and information you choose to include in a request. | Provided when you contact us. |
Device permissions
Depending on the features you use, CoupleTime may request access to notifications, selected photos or videos, camera, microphone, location while using the app, and motion data. iOS and Android control these permissions. You can deny or revoke them in system Settings, although the related feature may then be unavailable.
Website information
Our website and hosting provider may process standard request information such as IP address, browser type, requested page, and timestamp for delivery, reliability, and security. The website does not currently use advertising or behavioral-tracking cookies.
3. How we use information
- Provide, personalize, and synchronize CoupleTime features across connected accounts.
- Create and secure accounts, maintain sessions, verify email addresses, and recover access.
- Store and deliver content to you and the partner with whom you intentionally share a household.
- Process App Store and Google Play transactions, apply Pro access, maintain Heart balances, and prevent duplicate or fraudulent credits.
- Deliver notifications you enable and respect your category-level notification preferences.
- Protect the Service, enforce limits, investigate abuse, diagnose failures, and maintain reliability.
- Respond to support requests and meet legal, tax, accounting, and regulatory obligations.
Where applicable law requires a legal basis, we rely on performance of our agreement with you, your consent for optional permissions, our legitimate interests in operating and securing the Service, and compliance with legal obligations. You may withdraw consent for optional processing at any time, without affecting processing already completed.
4. What your connected partner can see
CoupleTime is designed around a two-person household. Information placed in a shared feature is available to your connected partner as indicated by that feature. This can include profile details, shared content, household presence, activity state, gifts, game activity, and shared profile compatibility results. Connect only with someone you trust, and do not add content you do not intend that person to receive.
Leaving a household stops future sharing. Content already created as part of the shared household may remain available to the remaining partner where it forms part of that person's shared history. You may contact us about specific content or privacy concerns.
5. Service providers and other disclosures
We disclose information only as needed for the following purposes:
- Amazon Web Services: application hosting, private media storage, databases, backups, secrets, and operational logs.
- Apple: App Store purchases, subscription status, push notifications, and Apple platform services you choose to use.
- Google: Google Play purchases and subscription status, Firebase Cloud Messaging, Maps, Google sign-in, and Android platform services you choose to use.
- Postmark: transactional account emails such as verification and password-reset messages.
- Vercel: delivery and security of the public CoupleTime website.
- Professional and legal recipients: when reasonably necessary to obtain advice, comply with law, respond to valid legal process, or protect users and the Service.
- Business transfers: if CoupleTime is involved in a merger, financing, acquisition, reorganization, or sale, subject to appropriate notice and safeguards.
Service providers are permitted to process information only for the services they provide and must protect it consistently with their obligations and this Policy. We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
6. Your choices and privacy rights
- Update your name, birthday, photo, special dates, and other editable profile information in the app.
- Choose notification categories in CoupleTime and manage system permissions in iOS or Android Settings.
- Leave a shared household or delete your account through the in-app account settings.
- Request account deletion without the app through the CoupleTime account deletion page.
- Request access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, portability, or withdrawal of consent where local law provides those rights.
To submit a request, email hello@coupletime.app. We may need to verify your identity before acting. Authorized agents may submit requests where permitted by law, subject to proof of authority. You may appeal a denied request by replying to our decision. We will not discriminate against you for exercising a privacy right.
California notice
The categories described in Section 2 summarize the personal information we may have collected during the preceding 12 months and the business purposes for which it is used. We do not sell personal information, share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, or use sensitive personal information to infer characteristics about you.
7. Retention and deletion
We retain information only for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the Service, maintain security and transaction integrity, resolve disputes, and comply with legal obligations. Retention depends on the record: active account and household information generally remains while the corresponding account or household exists; short-lived tokens expire automatically; and security, purchase, and accounting records may be retained longer where needed for fraud prevention or legal compliance.
You can permanently delete your account in the app. Deletion revokes sessions, removes the account and its personal records, and schedules associated profile media for deletion. If no partner remains, the household and its shared media are deleted. If a partner remains, jointly shared household history may remain with that partner as described above. Residual copies may persist temporarily in encrypted backups until they cycle out through ordinary backup retention.
8. Security and international processing
We use safeguards designed to protect information, including encrypted network connections, hashed passwords, private encrypted media storage, restricted database access, session controls, authorization checks, transaction verification, and rate limits. No system can guarantee absolute security.
CoupleTime and its providers may process information in the United States and other countries where they operate. Those countries may have different data-protection laws. Where required, we use recognized safeguards for international transfers.
9. Children, policy changes, and contact
CoupleTime is a general-audience service and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided information, contact us so we can investigate and delete it as appropriate.
We may update this Policy when the Service or applicable requirements change. We will post the revised Policy here, update the effective date, and provide additional notice when a material change requires it.
